Experience is an important aspect of the game. Most activities will grant the player with experience points, usually by obtaining awards. Obtaining new pinata, romancing them, growing and fertilizing plants, and even sending piñatas to parties will all reward the player with experience.

Experience takes the form of flower petals, placed around the in-game clock. Each point is one petal, with 12 petals in total, corresponding to the hours on the clock. Filling up the entire flower will reset the experience bar, often granting a level up. Higher levels will require more flowers be filled before your will level up, with a circle indicating how many more flowers you must fill before reaching the next level.

Levels

There are a total of 108 levels in Viva Piñata, and 196 in Trouble in Paradise. You will unlock everything before you even come close to obtaining every level, so do not worry unless you are going for 100% completion.

The game will begin at level 1, with your earliest levels obtained over the course of the tutorial. Leveling up is very important as it unlocks new seeds, new piñatas, new shops will open up, more threats will come to terrorize your garden, and new titles and upgrades will be granted to you as you advance in the levels. You will continue to climb up in levels even after obtaining the highest title possible; however, at this point it is just a marker of your progress toward 100%.

The following list records all important unlocks, up until you have unlocked everything possible by level up. Most level ups will unlock new items in the shops, but only important additions, such as special buildings and Helpers, will be listed here. For an in-depth list on a shops catalog, see their respective pages. New seeds given by Seedos are also excluded, see his page for a full list.

Pocket Paradise

In Pocket Paradise, levels work drastically differently from the console games. Experience points do not exist in this game, and level is instead determined by meeting a certain threshold of completion percentage. Additionally, there are only 10 total levels to achieve. Much like in the console games, each new level unlocks numerous new abilities, items and piñatas. Also like the console games, the smaller blue petals around the clock can be used to track how close you are to leveling up.
