White Flutterscotch

Like a scrap of paper buffeted by a gentle breeze, this common Flutterscotch flutters around the garden. It's not particularly pretty, or useful, but I'm sure something wants to eat it!

Level 3
Base Value 600 chocolate coins
Animal Butterfly
Candy Butterscotch
Attack Object Balls of sparkly pollen

White Flutterscotch is a plain-looking butterfly piñata. While it may look unassuming, it holds a whole rainbow of possibility.

The White Flutterscotch is the base form of all other species of Flutterscotch, and the only one that can be attracted to the garden or fetched by Gretchen Fetchem.

Variants

The White Flutterscotch is unique in that it does not have traditional variants. Instead, feeding it different colored flowers will allow it to transform into a total of 9 different colored Flutterscotches, each with their own uniquely shaped wings and antennae.

These variants are treated as separate species by the game, and each have their own awards the player can earn.

Variant Name Transformation
Brown Flutterscotch Has eaten a bullrush
Red Flutterscotch Has eaten a poppy
Orange Flutterscotch Has eaten a bird of paradise
Yellow Flutterscotch Has eaten a buttercup
Green Flutterscotch Has eaten a watercress
Blue Flutterscotch Has eaten a bluebell
Purple Flutterscotch Has eaten a thistle
Pink Flutterscotch Has eaten a water lily

In Pocket Paradise, only the Red, Green, Blue, and Yellow Flutterscotches are available.

Tips

Because all ten colors of Flutterscotch have their own romancing awards, they can be a daunting task for anyone trying to achieve 100% completion.

Regardless of which color performs a romance dance, the egg produced will always be that of a White Flutterscotch. Additionally, Gretchen Fetchem can only hunt White Flutterscotches and no other colors. This means that in order to obtain the Master Romancer award for a given color of Flutterscotch, seven White Flutterscotches must be evolved into the desired color. This allows for the process to be sped up by requesting Gretchen hunt Flutterscotches as the player also breeds them, after which a number of White Flutterscotches can all be evolved at once to obtain the Master Romancer award for the desired color. To obtain the Romancer award for a specific color, two Flutterscotches of that color must still be romanced, so even with hunting, each color must be romanced at least once to obtain all awards. Flutterscotches of different colors are not compatible romantically.

In Pocket Paradise, Flutterscotch award completion has been made easier in some ways and more difficult in others. Due to the number of possible colors being cut in half-- from 10 to 5-- there are only half as many resident, romancer, and master romancer awards to achieve. Additionally, Gretchen can now hunt down any color of Flutterscotch as long as that color has been obtained, making it easier to satisfy piñatas that require colored Flutterscotches, such as Jameleon and Sour Profitamole. However, due to the way the Master Romancer award works in this game, each color must be romanced 3 times to receive its Master Romancer award, meaning Gretchen's hunts are no longer useful for this award.

Leafos Gossip

  • “Don't you think that the white Flutterscotch is a bit drab? I remember there used to be lots of different coloured Flutterscotches."

Trivia

  • Flutterscotches are one of only two species of piñata to have no voice, the other being Mothdrop.
  • On the PC version of the original Viva Piñata, the 10 Flutterscotch variants are the only species whose romance dance is not pre-rendered. This is because every variant uses the exact same animation, and having each as an individual cutscene file may have added too much bloat.
  • Because of Flutterscotch's inability to produce eggs of other colors, it is impossible in normal gameplay to receive a wildcard for Flutterscotch colors other than white.
  • Despite not being one of their resident requirements, White Flutterscotches in the original Viva Piñata will often eat the daisies before actually joining the garden.
