Langston Lickatoad

Langston Lickatoad is a Lickatoad piñata who runs Piñata Central. He will often contact the player, issuing out Factory challenges to be completed. In Trouble in Paradise, he also runs Langstons TrapEase.

Despite being a piñata, Langston is fully capable of human speech, and is the only piñata in the games seen doing so. This oddity is never acknowledged in-game.

Biography

Appearance

Langston looks exactly like your average Lickatoad, and is the default green coloration. He wears a small orange hardhat on his head. The hat has a sign sticking up from it, emblazoned with the Piñata Central logo.

Like a normal piñata, Langston also has a label. It is of the Piñata Central logo, the same as on his hat.

Personality

Langston is a go-getter and will stop at nothing to meet Piñata Central's ever-increasing demand for piñatas at parties. He is highly motivated and issues challenges with impetus and excitement.

Gameplay

Viva Piñata

Langston plays a rather small role in the original Viva Piñata. Occasionally, Langston will send the player a pop-up message, requesting for piñatas to send to parties. He can request just about any piñata, and sometimes will even accept any piñata for the request. He may also request multiple piñata at once, and often has a time limit in which you need to send the requested piñata.

Accepting these is completely optional. If you do decide to accept his challenge, Langston will give you a crate to place in your garden, similar to ones obtained for the Post Office. The crate will only accept the requested piñata. Once the piñata have been packed, they will be sent off to Piñata Central. Completing the request will grant the player with rewards, often sweets. The piñatas you have sent off will return to the garden after a short while.

Langston is never seen in person in this game, only ever represented by his icon.

Viva Piñata: Trouble in Paradise

Langston's role was significantly expanded in Trouble in Paradise. You now get to interact with him face-to-face, and he plays several important roles in the game.

Upon first starting the game, you will be pointed towards Langston, who gives 3 challenges to you that act as the games tutorial. Langston himself takes a backseat in this however, with the player mainly being guided by the game itself and by Leafos. Completing each tutorial challenge will grant you a cutscene of your piñata being launched from the Cannoñata and a congratulatory message from Langston. These tutorial challenges can be skipped, however only before you have accepted them.

Once the tutorial is complete, Langston will now offer his global challenges. These have been completely overhauled from the first game, and are no longer random. Instead, there are a total of 120 challenges to complete, divided up into 7 regions. Requests come in from all across the world, with additional information on what the piñata is being requested for. Early challenges only require the correct species, but the difficulty quickly ramps up as people begin to order piñatas of a specific color variant, wearing specific accessories, or even knowing tricks.

Completing a challenge and sending a piñata to a party will reward the player with chocolate coins. This is a great method to fill out the computer records, and doing so will also grant experience.

Traveling to the Piñarctic or the Dessert Desert will allow you to reach Langstons TrapEase. This side business sells traps and bait needed to bring the piñata native to these regions back to the central garden. All traps must be purchased here, but bait can also be bought using the bait bag. More advanced traps and bait will be unlocked as you level up. This shop features a unique interior, with Langston at the Piñata Central computer seen in the game's introduction cutscene.

Mini-Games

Langston in The P Factor

Langston can participate in the mini-games introduced in Trouble in Paradise. As an opponent, he will use a Lickatoad. It is unknown if this is meant to be a separate Lickatoad, or Langston himself.

As a judge in The P Factor, Langston will prefer piñatas with high Candiosity. Making your piñatas happy, such as by feeding them food they like, giving them accessories, or naming them will all help raise their candiosity. A joy or happy sweet will also work. Langston has opposite preferences to Jeffe, who likes piñatas with low Candiosity.

Trivia

• Langston is a character originally from the Viva Piñata cartoon series. He was included in the game series to better tie the two sides of the franchise together.
  • This fact is referenced in-universe by Jeffe, who was originally designed as the head of Piñata Central before it was decided to include Langston instead. It is stated by Jeffe that he was fired from that same position and replaced by Langston, leading to him holding a grudge on the frog.
• Langston is the only non-human NPC in the games, and the only piñata fully capable of human speech and thought.
• Due to his unclear game icon and never seeing him in-person in the original Viva Piñata, many players thought he was a man wearing some sort of frog mask.
