Leafos is the first face you meet upon arriving at your new garden. She is eager to help you get started, and continues to be a semi-reliable source of information throughout the game.
Leafos is the eldest daughter of Jardiniero, formerly the best gardener on Piñata Island and the previous owner of the garden seen in the original Viva Piñata. She is eager to see you restore the garden to it's former glory, and is more than willing to help you on every step of the way.
Leafos is also the author of the Journal, the in-game guide to everything you discover in your garden.

Lore

Leafos was the second child born to Jardiniero and Mother, born while her mother was on shore leave. Mother would leave again soon after, leaving Leafos with her father and elder brother, Stardos.
She grew to adore her father's garden. So much she would bring flowers inside, and later would attempt to do the same with a Moozipan. This incident sparked Jardiniero to gift her paper and pencils, telling her to draw what she saw in the garden to bring into her room. Leafos loved the idea, and quickly filled all the space in her room. Jardiniero would then get the idea to bind the drawings into a book, creating the Journal.
After some time her parents would leave in the hunt for a Dragonache, entrusting the care of the garden to Stardos and Leafos. This unfortunately would quickly go awry. After Stardos disappeared, Ruffians would attack the garden. Unable to do anything to stop them, Leafos would hide in the safety of the family home, leaving her the only one left to tell her father the grim news upon his return.
None of her siblings ever returned home, all finding their own paths away from the now derelict garden. Leafos would remain living with her father, staring sadly at the remains of the garden. Eventually, they would decide to sell the land. The player purchases the garden, and the game begins.
Gameplay
Leafos acts as a guide to the player throughout the game. At the beginning of Viva Piñata, she gives the player the tutorial, teaching the basics of residing piñatas, growing plants, and romancing. She also gifts you the tools needed to work in your garden, although they are in rough shape.
In Trouble in Paradise, the tutorial is much more indirect, with Leafos taking a backseat. Regardless, she is still there to help the player get on their feet.
After the tutorial, Leafos is often the one to inform you about different things going on in your garden. Whether it's a level up, fights, or an introduction to a new character or piñata, Leafos is usually the one to let you know what's up via the alert system.
Every day she will visit your garden, often seeming to simply be observing the goings on of your garden. The player can talk to her while she is visiting, where you will be able to hear Leafos' Gossip. These can range from hints, information about the world and other characters, or just a silly fun fact. Be mindful though, as the name gossip would imply, many of the hints she gives the player turn out to be false information. Whether she does this intentionally, or if she is simply mistaken about how certain things work is unknown.
More mischievous gardeners may decide to mess with Leafos back, by hitting her with your shovel or watering her with the watering can. Leafos will become angry with you, and if you push her patience enough times, she will temporarily take the offending tool away from you. She will give it back to you after some time.
Mini-Games
In Trouble in Paradise, two mini-games were added where you can compete against any character in-game. These are The Great Piñata Paperchase, and The P Factor.
Leafos can be your opponent in either game, where the piñata she uses is randomized.
In The P Factor, she can instead be a judge. As a judge, Leafos will prefer low level or low value piñatas, such as Whirlms or Bunnycombs. She shares this criteria with Nana Urf, and has opposite tastes to Gretchen Fetchum and Professor Pester.
