Tips
Viva Piñata: Pocket Paradise
In Pocket Paradise, the method to attract a Jeli is unique among all other piñatas in the series. It is possible to play through the entire game and get every award for every other plant and piñata species without ever seeing a Jeli once. This is because, when a new file is started, the game randomly selects whether or not that file will be able to attract a Jeli. The exact odds of this happening are 1 in 3. If selected, a secret flag is set in the game data.
On a file that has been randomly selected, Jeli will start appearing at nighttime beginning after the player reaches level 6. Unlike other species, the player will not receive a notification when Jeli appears or visits the garden. Jeli will likely be spotted while simply moving the camera around the garden at night. After spotting Jeli, it is imperative that the player immediately whack it with the shovel, as it will begin to flee as soon as it has been spotted.
It is also possible to learn a Jeli is in the garden from the map view. While surveying the garden from the map, unknown piñatas and species that have not yet become resident will be identified by a gray pawprint icon with a question mark in it. This icon can be tapped once to show the piñata's details on the top screen. If the piñata in question is a Jeli, the top screen will identify it as such. Tapping it a second time will instantly move the camera over the Jeli, where it can be quickly whacked with the shovel.
On files that can attract one, Jeli will appear very commonly until it is captured-- usually every single night after reaching level 6. If Jeli does not appear after reaching level 6, it is likely that the file cannot attract Jeli, and the only way to obtain one is therefore to send one from another file. The only requirements for Jeli to appear are that it is nighttime, the player is at least level 6, and the file has been randomly selected to be a Jeli file. Lights in the garden will not deter Jeli from visiting.
Only one Jeli can be obtained in the wild. Once Jeli has become a resident of the garden, new Jeli will not appear, and Gretchen cannot hunt any more of them. The only way to obtain additional Jeli is by romancing. Of course, to romance Jeli, a second member of the species is required, which must be sent over via mail crate from another file. The easiest way to get a second Jeli is to copy a file that already has a Jeli resident, and send the Jeli from the copy over to the first file. Data can be copied from the Options menu at the file select by tapping the DS Game Card icon.
Unique to this game, there is a certificate for sending a Jeli to another game cart.
