Gretchen Fetchem

Gretchen Fetchem is the fashion-forward hunter who runs the shop of the same name. She can be hired to hunt down any piñata species that you have previously resided in your garden.

Gretchen begins offering her hunting service to the player starting from level 5. She can be hired to fetch piñatas, though she will only hunt species for which the resident award has already been obtained.

She has two tiers of service, standard and express. Standard service costs the same value as the desired piñata, but takes a long time. Express service costs twice as much, but in return, Gretchen finishes her hunt much more quickly.

Once the desired piñata has been selected for hunting, Gretchen will leave her shop for awhile, during which time her shop cannot be accessed. Upon her return, she will send an alert letting the player know their order has been completed. She will continuously send alerts every few minutes until the player has picked up the fetched piñata. While Gretchen is holding a piñata for pickup, she will not accept any new hunting requests.

When picking up the fetched piñata, it can be placed anywhere in the garden and will become a resident as soon as it is dropped off. At this point, Gretchen also charges her hunting fee. Optionally, the player may request that Gretchen release the piñata back to the wild instead, much to her annoyance. If the piñata is released, the player will not be charged for it.

In the original Viva Piñata, Dragonache can be commanded to leave the garden, upon which it will fly off elsewhere. While the Dragonache is away, Gretchen will be able to retrieve it, free of charge and with no wait time.

In Pocket Paradise, Gretchen takes over the Post Office and Paper Pets, offering their respective services in place of their usual proprietors. She still offers her hunting service as well.

Dragonache, Choclodocus, and every color of Flutterscotch except white cannot be fetched by her. In Pocket Paradise, she also cannot fetch a Jeli, due to its status as a special piñata in that game. This is not the case in Trouble in Paradise, where Jeli has no such status and can be hunted normally.

Gretchen can participate in the mini-games introduced in Trouble in Paradise. As an opponent, she will use a Roario.

As a judge in The P Factor, Gretchen prefers high level or high value piñatas. This is the same as Professor Pester, and opposite to Leafos and Nana Urf.

Trivia

• Gretchen’s name has inconsistent spelling in the game. It is sometimes spelled as Gretchen Fetchum, with a “U”, in places such as The P Factor.
• According to Langston, Gretchen gets her traps from his side business, Langstons TrapEaze.
• In the console games, Gretchen has a line hinting at the Dragonache. In Pocket Paradise, this line is altered to reference Jeli.
