Dragonache
Dragonache is a legendary dragon piñata. It is the ultimate prize in Viva Piñata, and plays a major role in the game's lore, recounted in the Storybook.
Only one Dragonache exists per garden. The Dragonache cannot be sold, get sick, be destroyed, or romance. The Dragonache is one of only two species that does not have a piñata home.

Lore
The Dragonache was once considered so elusive, no one had ever truly seen one. It wasn’t even certain if the beast existed, yet still the hunt for it was fierce. One gardener, Jardiniero, had managed to obtain every piñata on the island, all except for the Dragonache.
Determined to prove once and for all he was the best gardener Piñata Island had ever seen, Jardiniero and his wife would set out on a voyage in search of the Dragonache. Following a map gifted to them by an old acquaintance, they searched for an island home to an old man rumored to have actually seen a Dragonache. The pair would find the island, but would wreck their ship trying to navigate around shallow rocks.
Jardiniero would wash up on the beach, where he would meet the old man. The old man had been a Diggerling, and while he hadn’t actually seen a Dragonache in the flesh, he had once discovered an egg, buried deep underground.
Jardiniero would return home, only to find his garden destroyed by Ruffians, and his children scattered. Disabled from injuries sustained in the shipwreck, he would be unable to repair the garden, nor ever obtain the Dragonache for himself. Now it is up to the player to complete the hunt for the piñata that destroyed the garden.
Obtaining a Dragonache
Unlike most piñatas, the Dragonache cannot be attracted to your garden from the wild, nor can it be found in any of the other methods you may obtain a new piñata. Obtaining a Dragonache is a lengthy process that mostly comes down to luck, sometimes you will find it right away and sometimes it can take in-game weeks. Just be patient, you will find it eventually.
Finding the Egg
In order to find a living Dragonache, you must first find the egg. This is actually a very simple process, though very expensive.
You will first need to construct a Mine, Willy can help with this. It is quite large, so make sure you have plenty of space for it. Once the mine is built, you will need to hire some Diggerlings to work inside it. You can do with just one, but multiple is recommended, as each one gives you one more chance for loot each day.
Once your Diggerlings have begun to work, all you will need to do is wait. This may take awhile, it is recommended to work on other things in your garden in the meantime and allow the Diggerlings to work in the background.
There are a few ways to help speed it up. A Candary can be sent into the mines and help out (test what Candary actually does). You can also simply hire more Diggerlings, if you are beginning to get impatient and have plenty of cash.
Eventually, the mine will spit out an unassuming egg onto your lawn. This is what you have been searching for.
Hatching the Egg
Dragonache eggs will not hatch on their own. They also will not break (test this), so no amount of shovel smacking will encourage the baby to pop out. In order to convince the egg to hatch, you will need to obtain a Cluckles. Cluckles can be easily purchased from Paper Pets (Classic and PP), or can be attracted from the wild with a little food (TIP).
Either way, once you have your Cluckles, all you will need to do is direct it to your egg. Be mindful of what terrain the egg is sitting on when it hatches, as this will determine the color of the piñata. Once the Cluckles has worked it’s magic, a bouncing baby Dragonache will be yours!
Growing your Dragonache
Dragonache will not grow up on their own. You may keep it as a baby permanently if you wish, however it will not offer any protection if you do.
To grow your Dragonache into an adult, you will need to complete the following:
- Has eaten one Dragumfly
- Has eaten one Salamango
- Has eaten one Redhott
- Has eaten one Snapdragon
- Has drunk one bottle of milk
Once all of these have been eaten, your Dragonache will finally enter its cocoon, and emerge as a fully grown fire breathing Dragonache!
Variants
Dragonache do not have traditional variants. Instead, your Dragonache’s color is determined by what terrain it is on when the egg hatches. This cannot be changed after the piñata is born, so choose wisely.
| Image | Requirement |
|---|---|
| (Brown) | Hatch on dirt
or Hatch on mud |
| (Green) | Hatch on short grass
or Hatch on long grass |
| (Blue) | Hatch in water |
| (Gold) | Hatch on cracked earth
or Hatch on Gold Tile (TIP only) |
| (White) | Hatch on snow (TIP only) |
| (Red) | Hatch on sand (TIP only) |
Dragonache also has variation in its features. Upon being born, a Dragonache will have a random set of mane, teeth, wings, and tail. This cannot be influenced by the player, and is entirely random. This makes it unlikely to see two of the exact same Dragonache.
