Weeds are noxious plants that can cause trouble in your garden. They share the same red and angular design of other pests, such as sours, and can be a real problem if not kept under control.

Unlike other plants, weeds cannot be fertilized and do not need any water to grow. They can grow on any surface, except directly in water, and can grow much closer together than other plants. Weed seeds are very fast to plant themselves, and along with weed plants often dropping multiple seeds upon being destroyed can mean weeds can easily grow out of control.

Growing a weed will still net you an award, although that is the only award that can be obtained for weeds, as they cannot be fertilized.

Weed Sources

Weeds are not a common threat to your garden, usually they will only appear due to the actions of the player. Still, weeds can appear from a variety of sources, and can be a real problem if left unchecked.

Instead of candy, sour piñatas will spread weed seeds when broken open by any means, such as by being hit with your shovel or losing a fight. Sours broken and relocated outside the garden due to becoming stuck will not spread weed seeds.

Hitting Seedos with your shovel may drop normal seeds at first, but he will quickly return to your garden with a vengeance if you do. He will plant about 5 random weed seeds around your garden, which can be very dangerous if you are not paying attention.

Weed Seeds can also be purchased from Costolot's Store like any other seed. This is useful when you need weeds for something, such as fulfilling piñata requirements or trying to find a new variant. While some weeds aren't very dangerous and can be planted just about anywhere without causing too much trouble, other weeds can be very dangerous and should be contained within fencing if you need to plant them.

Dealing with Weeds

The simplest way to get rid of weeds is to wack them with your shovel. This will quickly kill the plant, and drop it's flowerhead similar to ordinary flowers. However, weeds will often drop multiple seeds upon being destroyed, and the seeds can often plant themselves faster than you can break them. Additionally, the flowerhead itself for certain species of weed, such as the hemlock or the prickly pear, can be dangerous to most piñatas if ingested. You can contain a weed outbreak yourself if it's small enough, but if it begins to grow out of control you will likely need to employ some help.

A Weedling can be hired from Arfur's Inn to help you handle any weed outbreaks. Once they arrive for their shift, you can direct them to any weeds that need exterminating. They will blow noxious gas onto the plants, killing them without dropping seeds or flowerheads. Weedling can only take care of fully grown weeds, and loose seeds and weeds still growing cannot be affected by them.

A tamed Shellybean can be a big help in containing weeds. If a fully grown weed is in your garden, the Shellybean will rush over to it and destroy it. It will still drop the flowerhead and seeds, but the Shellybean can take care of those for you too, as it loves to eat weed seeds and can eat any of the flowerheads safely. If the seeds plant themselves before the Shellybean can eat them, it will need to wait for the plant to finish growing before it can try to eliminate it again.

The combined efforts of a Weedling and a Shellybean can be a very efficient duo to clean up any weeds infesting your garden. Once the weeds are clear, you may fire the Weedling as they are not very useful to have around full-time.
